Rakkyo Onion
UTAllium chinense Not to Norfolk Island, NT, SA, TAS or WA Syn. Chinese Onion, Oriental Onion, Jiao Tou, Cu Kieu Rakkyo is a hardy multiplying onion native to China. It grows as a dense evergreen clump with pretty, deep rose-pink flowers. It is tolerant of a range of growing conditions. A staple vegetable in cuisines ranging from Japan to China to Thailand to Vietnam to Indonesia. Rakkyo in just a few seasons becomes hugely productive. Suitable for most areas of Australia. Raspberry 'Tulameen'
UTRubus idaeus Not to Norfolk Island NT, SA, TAS or WA If you live in an area that will grow raspberries then why wouldn't you? Raspberry 'Tulameen' is a luscious fruit for eating fresh or preparing as a wonderful dessert. The fruit are large, sweet and juicy with an excellent flavour and are borne over an exceptionally long period. It is easy to manage as the old canes are simply cut down to ground level after fruiting to allow room for the new canes next season. The canes grow to 1.8 m tall and can be tied to a trellis or tripod and are relatively spine-free. Rhubarb
tolerates partial shade and prefers a rich, well-drained soil. It is suitable
for VIC, NSW and cooler areas of QLD. In humid areas, plant your rhubarb in a planter
bag and move under an eave during the wet season. Contrary to popular belief 'red' is not a sign
of sweetness in rhubarb, green stems are not only perfectly edible but can also be sweeter than red stems.

Rhubarb 'Ever Red'
UTRheum rhabarbarum Not to Norfolk Island, TAS or WA 'Ever Red' is a heavy producer of true crimson red stalks with an excellent flavour and a long harvest period. Rhubarb 'Victoria'
UTRheum rhabarbarum Not to Norfolk Island, NT, SA, TAS or WA 'Victoria' is noticeably sweeter and milder than other rhubarb. It produces prolific yields of thick, tender stalks with a rosy-red sheen that gradually turn to pink and then to green toward the leaf tip. More info on growing rhubarb... Saffron Crocus
UTCrocus sativus Not to Norfolk Island, TAS or WA Saffron Crocus flower stigmas are the world's costliest spice. It grows as a small bulb with purple flowers, each with three stigmas. Easy to grow, in dry Mediterranean conditions (VIC, SA, drier areas of NSW). It is unlikely to be successful in humid, subtropical areas, such as coastal zones north of Sydney and QLD but if you want to give it a try, plant it in a terracotta pot that can be kept fairly dry. Salvia 'Black and Bloom'

Blue Anise Sage Hardy 'Black and Bloom' is a lovely perennial with beautiful, large, deep violet-blue flowers with black calyces on sturdy black spikes flowering from spring to autumn. The dark green, shiny leaves have a sweet anise scent and provide an attractive contrast to the flowers. It grows to 90 - 120 cm high and 90 cm wide. It is a low maintenance flowering plant that is attractive to bees and butterflies. It is an excellent cut flower, bedding plant or to grow in containers. The flower spikes can be dried and used as everlasting flowers for bouquets or craft projects. It prefers a rich, moist, well-drained in full sun to light shade but tolerates poorer soils. Stevia 'Candy'
UTStevia rebaudiana Not to Norfolk Island, NT, SA, TAS or WA Syn. Sweet Leaf Stevia is a hardy herb widely used as a sugar substitute. The cultivar 'Candy' is much sweeter than other types and has no bitter aftertaste. Stevioside, extracted from the leaves of the plant, is said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar but contains no calories. It is a perennial plant growing to 1 m high, prefers to grow in full sun. Strawberry - Alpine 'Mignonette'
UTFragaria vesca Not to Norfolk Island, NT, SA, TAS or WA Syn. Fraises des Bois 'Mignonette' is a cultivated version of the woodland strawberries that have been grown in home gardens since the 12th century. Alpine strawberries can grow in full sun, although in very hot areas, they do better in dappled shade. Like other strawberries, they do best in a rich, fertile, well-drained soil. The plants are hardy and unlike other strawberries, they do not send out runners. Instead they grow as a leafy mound to 30 cm in height. Plants bear fruit the first season after planting. Feed and water regularly and they will continue to fruit for 2 to 4 years. Best grown in temperate or cooler subtropical areas. Strawberry 'Lowanna'
