SLASHER
This is a non-selective, contact weed spray based on a food
grade product. It occurs naturally in pelargonium plants, grapes
and other plants. The active ingredient, Pelargonic acid, works
by "burning" the waxy cuticle of green vegetation causing rapid
dehydration of plant foliage, it will not move through and
leaves no residue in the soil. This acid is used in the food
processing industry to assist in the peeling of fruits and
vegetables. Results are usually visible on most weeds within
hours. It is best applied in warm, sunny weather with no rain or
irrigation for 2 hours. It effectively controls both annual
broadleaf weeds and grasses that are less than 15 cm tall and
for top kill of perennial species. Treated areas can be sown or
transplanted into as soon as desirable levels of weed control
are obtained but follow-up applications 7-10 days later may be
required for perennials and larger annual weeds. Sample

Toxicology and ecological profile of
Pelargonic acid
Pelargonic acid is naturally present in pelargonium plants,
apples, skin of grapes and in grape pulp. It is present in a
number of other foods as well.
The USA Food and Drug
Administration has cleared
Pelargonic acid as a synthetic food flavouring agent,
production aid, sanitiser to be used in contact with food
and in washing or lye peeling of fruits and vegetables. (up
to 1%).
Pelargonic acid poses no risk to the environment, is
non-toxic to animals (acute and sub-chronic), is
non-mutagenic, non-carcinogenic, does not bio-accumulate in
the soil and breaks down readily in the presence of
microbial activity within a half life of 1.6 days in soil.
