Syn. Golden berry, Husk cherry. Cape Gooseberry is a hardy, shrubby perennial that can live up to 3 years in warmer areas. It can be grown as an annual in colder climates. It produces large quantities of sweet, juicy, small marble-sized golden fruit that are eaten fresh, dried or as preserves. Heaviest yield is in the 1st and 2nd years. The fruit is rich in iron, potassium and vitamins A, B & C.
