The pods contain a sweet pulp with a sugar content as high as 50%. Pods are roasted and ground into powder that is used as a caffeine-free chocolate substitute. The pods contain 21% protein and are readily eaten by cattle and sheep. The trees are also useful as windbreaks and shade trees.
