Manganji Togarashi' chillies are a mild, Japanese variety with a sweet, earthy flavour and crisp, aromatic flesh. The fruit is long and skinny to 15 cm long. The skin is smooth, glossy and soft, ripening from green to orange-red when mature. The bushes are stocky, 60 cm tall and suitable for containers. It is prized as a traditional pepper in Kyoto and Tokyo but relatively rare outside of Japan. It is mainly used when young and green in sweet and savoury dishes. Scoville heat scale: 100 units.
