Cosmos 'Polidor' is a fast growing, bright and cheerful mix of yellow, gold, orange and orange-red semi-double blooms that flower over a long period. A hardy annual that attracts bees, butterflies and other pollinators. It forms a bushy plant with deeply-cut foliage to 70 cm tall, so a good height for containers. The flowers, young leaves and shoots of this species, Cosmos sulphureus, are edible whereas the common Cosmos bipinnatus are not. It is very drought and heat tolerant. Suitable for temperate, subtropical and tropical areas. Sow seed in November through to December in cool temperate areas. Sow in warm temperate areas early Spring to Summer. In subtropical areas sow Spring and Autumn (in frost free areas only). In tropical areas sow during the dry season. The best germination soil temperature is between 22 to 27°C. Germination will take 14 to 21 days. Sow the seed 5 to 6 mm deep direct into a garden bed, it dislikes being transplanted. Space the plants 40 to 50 cm apart. Dead-head regularly; Cosmos sulphureus will usually self-sow from year to year.
