Dame's Rocket is an old-fashioned, cottage garden plant produces clusters of violet flowers on upright flower spikes. The flowers have a spicy clove scent and are fragrant at night. A biennial plant to 75-100 cm tall with a spread of 150 cm. The flowers, young leaves, tender portions of the stems and pods are edible, similar in flavour to cress. It is an attractive cut flower. The flowers are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. It is a hardy plant and easy to grow in light shade, it prefers moist, well-drained soil. The seeds germinate best between 21° - 26°C; sow early spring in temperate areas; late spring in very cool areas; March to April in subtropical areas. It has a strong tendency to self-sow so it is best to cut the flower spikes once the flowers fade, this will also encourage repeat blooming. Days to bloom: 70 - 80 days
