Syn. Kyona, Japanese mustard. A traditional Japanese salad green that forms a large rosette of slender white stalks and attractive, feathery dark-green leaves. The flavour is mildly spicy and crisp. It is often grown as part of a salad mix and can be cut a few leaves at a time. Older leaves can be steamed as a spinach. It is heat and cold tolerant and slow to bolt. The flowers are attractive to beneficial insects.
