It is a truly heritage vegetable having been grown by the ancient Egyptians. The pods of this variety are dark green, slightly grooved, straight and spineless. Serve fried, in soups and stews and use for pickling. Seeds can be roasted and ground as a coffee substitute. Young leaves can be steamed.
