Sow when: Frost tender; germinate best at 21 - 35°C soil temp.; seed will rot in cold, wet soil; rodents and birds often steal seed, protect with an upturned pot

Germination: 7 - 10 days

Depth: 2.5 cm deep

Position: Full sun

Sow where: Directly into garden beds

Soil type: Fertile, well-drained soil, pH 6 - 7.5; add plenty of compost

Harvest: 100 - 105 days: harvest pumpkins when fully coloured and the stem is brown. Pick with a stem, 6 cm long, dry in the sun before storing
