This is an excellent soil builder, able to break up compaction with its large taproots. The strong, metre long roots can penetrate into the subsoil, control erosion, suppress weeds, improve aeration and water filtration into the soil. It is also an excellent animal forage, as it is fast growing and able to be grazed at 6 weeks with very good palatability. It can also be used as a biofumigant green manure to help control soil-borne diseases including fungi and nematodes. The flowers are attractive to beneficial insects. It can be sown most of the year avoiding very hot weather or very cold weather in cold temperate areas. Suitable for temperate, subtropical and tropical areas.
