Botanical name: Glycine max
Soybean is an upright legume that requires a min. rainfall p.a. of 700 mm. It does best in temperate and subtropical climates, particularly from northern NSW to southern QLD. The seed is used as a dried bean, to make tofu, soy flour and soymilk. Also used for sprouts. It is a good animal fodder. It is a very useful green manure and fixes up to 300 kg of N per ha.
